The production and use of posters to promote airlines and their operations has remained an integral part of various airlines' advertising campaigns despite inroads made recently by the electronic media.
These posters designed by Harry Rogers were in a series commissioned by Qantas as part of a successful advertising campaign promoting overseas destinations to Australian travellers.
Rogers enjoyed a long and productive association with Qantas as a freelance designer. He devised many different and unusual techniques for each different poster series; starting in the 1950s through to the 1970s, incorporating a variety of styles such as geometrics, watercolours, collage work, and oils.
Rogers' designs were innovative, utilising the latest in printing, typesetting and photo technology. The posters produced for Qantas made use of bold, readily identifiable images and vivid colours that were typical of the period. | |
